What is an Infant Toddler Mental Health Consultant (ITMHC)?

An ITMCH helps promote healthy growth in young children’s social and emotional development.  Guiding and supporting the caregivers/ parents in children life to recognize, promote & practice positive development. 

Hello! My name is Tara Mullen. I am the Infant & Toddler Mental Health Consultant (ITMHC) for the Child Care Council of Orange County.  Prior to this, I worked as a Certified Child Life Specialist at a large children’s hospital. I spent most days advocating for children, educating them, and providing them with the social and emotional support they needed, during the most challenging times.

I am excited to bring my skills set to this new role as an ITMHC. When collaborating, my first goal is to learn about each individual child and caregiver; learning who they are and how together we can overcome obstacles and challenges. I hope to learn the culture of your setting and help you find ways to continue supporting these young children during the most important years of their lives.

It has been a challenging time for us all, as we navigate the current pandemics. As a working mother, I would like to say THANK YOU to all you out there providing care to our children- before, during and especially at this challenging time. There is nothing more important than raising a child, and you play a huge role in children’s lives!

With that being said, I would love to partner with you to change children’s lives for the better. Ways that I can help:

• Make important connections with the children, families, and caregivers

• Teach you skills to make these connections

• Improve the overall development of the children in care

• Provide a one-of-a-kind service to infants and toddlers.
